Still in the Hospital

Bronson has been doing pretty good. They think it may just be something viral but with a prolonged fever and being very fatigued they wanted to run tests and monitor him to rule out any other causes. He hasn't had a fever since yesterday so that's great!

He was up most of the night (as was I) thanks to all of the distractions of IV lines getting tangled, an IV machine with lots of buttons that are begging to be pressed, and a crib hood that is great for knocking on and making noise!

Due to his fever and cold he was put on droplet precautions so anyone coming in has to be wearing a gown, mask, and gloves. He's not allowed to leave the room so that makes for a long day! Thank goodness for the Child Life Specialist who brought in a play mat, toys, and a calming sensory light/water/bubble machine (I have no idea what they're called but there's a picture below). Within two minutes of turning on this machine Bronson was laying down with his blanket and soother falling asleep.

His blood work has been pretty good with the exception of his WBC being a little high and his hemoglobin a little low. Bronson received a bolus of fluid last night and since then he's been eating, drinking, and back to himself so dehydration was a bit of the problem.

I was told that he would have to stay a minimum of 48 hours until all of the blood cultures come back (we had them done Thursday morning). Hopefully they're negative and he'll be able to go home tomorrow!

A Hospital Admission

Liver transplant kids can have a lot of complications and a lot of hospital stays. We've very been lucky that Bronson made it one year, one month, and 5 days without any complications or hospital admissions. However, our record ended today.

Bronson is always sick because of his immunosuppression meds used for his liver transplant. In the last year the longest he's gone without a cold is probably only 3-4 weeks. So, two weekends ago when he started getting sick with a cold I didn't think anything of it.

A week ago he started a fever that's been ongoing along with no appetite, and has been sleeping 12 plus hours at night with 3-5hrs of naps through the day. We took him to the local ER earlier in the week and the bloodwork and X-ray they did came back fine and they sent us home. The next day i spoke with our transplant nurse practitioner and she thought it was a good idea to come to Sick Kids and have blood work done.

I had a feeling that he might be admitted so I packed a bag for Bronson and I. And, sure enough, they admitted him. I'm really hoping it's just a one night admission. The test results from all the tests aren't back yet and probably won't be until tomorrow. They started him on antibiotics to get a head start on things.

I'll post an update tomorrow to let you know how he's doing.

Photo & Commercial Shoot for Sick Kids

Last week was a busy week with an exciting photo and commercial shoot for some future ad campaigns for The Sick Kids Foundation (Hospital for Sick Children).

The photo shoot was of Bronson and my sister, Sarah Beth, who donated a lobe of her liver to Bronson.

The photos from this shoot will be used with several other photos in an ad campaign that will be seen around Toronto on things such as bus shelters. I'm not sure of the dates of when they'll be going up but keep your eyes open for them if you're in Toronto!

The commercial that will be coming out will have Jon and Bronson in it somewhere. Again, I'm not sure of the exact date when the commercial will be out but keep your eyes open for it on tv! Once it's out I'll try and find it on YouTube to share with you as well.

If you see any of the ads email and let me know! :)

Hi, My name is Angela

Hi, I'm Angela. Do you remember me? I seemed to have gotten lost in the blog world!

I know, I know... It's been a month and a half since I last posted anything...
I'm really Sorry!

I guess I need to give a good recap of what's been going on around here lately.

First, the most exciting thing, is that Bronson is now full out walking!

Yay Bronson!

Back in June at a physio/occupational therapy check up we were told that Bronson had very weak   legs and ankle support. I was told to buy him good supportive running shoes (no sandals whatsoever) and keep them on him whenever he was weight bearing.... so all the time.
Literally within 2-3 days of getting him new shoes he started cruising around the furniture!

Flip ahead to the long weekend in September - 16 months old and he still wasn't walking. Kallie didn't have any medical issues and didn't walk until 15 months old so I wasn't worrying too much about it. But, that long weekend he all of a sudden decided he'd had enough with crawling and hasn't stopped walking. He's a very busy boy and is constantly getting himself into trouble... well, he was getting into everything before but now he can get to things a lot quicker! We're still waiting on a referral to get Bronson into physiotherapy because of his low muscle tone but he's doing pretty good on his own so far!
Over the summer Kallie has become obsessed with all things princess. Princess dresses, princess shoes, princess crowns, princess tutu's. Everyday is dress up day! I'm waiting for Halloween to be over and am going to go get her some dress up outfits on clearance.
Oh, I love holiday clearance items!

I don't know where toddlers come up with some ideas from.

Kallie has this new habit of taking off her pants and underwear and trying to put her bare bum on people. It was funny the first couple of times and I laughed... I definitely shouldn't have laughed! It happens way too often now and I have to keep telling her that people don't like to have other people's bums on them. At least it hasn't happened in public yet!

I know it's blurry but he looks waayy too cute here and I had to share it!

Check back on Tuesday (I promise I will be posting a lot more often!) and I'll tell you about Bronson's photo and commercial shoot that happened last week for a Sick Kids campaign!

Have a great weekend everyone! :)
